Technology and Outcomes

Functionality: The proposed website will use a responsive web design approach to optimize the site for different device characteristics. There won’t be separate layouts for different devices and all elements will be full-sized and fluidly adjusted to screen dimensions. Users will be able to access the experience via their mobile device as well as online. At the start of a tour, guided or not, visitors can scan a QR code that switches them to AR mode and enables virtual overlays of Bison grazing, tools, hoof prints, and other aspects of Indigenous lifeways related to Bison. This will include pop-up facts or animated reconstructions about the location and tools. At the end of the tour, visitors will be invited to a survey

Technology:

  1. Web AR: Unity AR Foundation to embed AR features into a responsive web design, b) CSS media queries and touch/mouse controls, c( the museum servers for storage, d( museum created video resources for images/animations.
  2. Wi-fi zone extension/upgrade to existing infrastructure: The center on the property has wi-fi access for the meeting spaces, however, for ease of access for the AR experience on the trail, we would like to propose an upgrade to the current infrastructure.
  3. Museum Technology: Propose to the institution to get in-house mobile devices to support using AR tech during the guided tours (e.g tablets for school trips, visitors without access).
